<p>It was SUBSTANCIAL, but above all, fresh and very tasty&#8230; All that in a charming place (like everywhere is in this city), with the cat, fast asleep on the sofa, unflappable and showing an enviable serenity!</p>

<div>My breakfast was composed of toasts, salmon slighlty smoken, scrambled eggs, a slice of gingerbread, tomatoes-cucumbers, cheese, butter-jam, half the croissant of my dear boyfriend, a coffee and a strawberry-kiwi smothie&#8230; Gargantuesque (how did I manage to eat it all ?!) but mandatory to start a long walking day.</div>

<div><span style="color:#888888;">Mon petit-déjeuner se composait de toasts, de saumon légèrement fumé, d’œufs brouillés, d&#8217;une tranche de pain d&#8217;épices, tomates-concombre, fromage, beurre-confiture, la moitié du croissant de mon chéri, un café et un smoothie fraise-kiwi&#8230;Gargantuesque (comment ai-je fait pour avaler tout ça?!) mais indispensable pour entamer une longue journée de marche.</span></div>

<p>Le Warwick Barsey hôtel a une ambiance cosy, notamment grâce à ses lumières tamisées. Un style très britannique comprenant boiseries et bar à whisky.</p>
<p>Le petit déjeuner est servi dans la salle de restaurant immense et décorée de tableaux, de fauteuils, de lustres et de vaisselle en porcelaine.</p>
<p>On peut y trouver des croissants, des œufs brouillés, du bacon et des saucisses, du saumon fumé, mais aussi des fruits, des jus, des pains de différentes sortes ainsi que des laitages.</p>
<p>C&#8217;était très bon, particulièrement  avant d&#8217;attaquer une journée pluvieuse.</p>

<p><span style="color:#888888;">The Warwick Barsey hotel has a cosy feeling, thanks notably to its soft lights. It is very British styled, including wooden panellings and a whisky bar.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">The breakfast is served in the huge restaurant room, which is decorated with paintings, sofas, ceiling lights and chinaware.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">For breakfast, we can find croissants, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages, smoked salmon and also fruits, juices, various kinds of bread and dairies.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">It was very good, particularly before starting a rainy day.</span></p>

<p>we had the opportunity to experience 2 not so different breakfasts, the difference being mostly the quality of the food served.</p>

<p><span style="color:#888888;">In Scotland, another (if not as Northern) Northern European country, to have smoked herring for breakfast is quite commun as well.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">We spent a few days in St Andrews area. Proud of being the place where Kate and William met, St Andrews is also one of the birthplace of golf.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">We stayed in Crail, one of the fishing villages surrounding StAndrews.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">On the first day, at the hotel, we had a breakfast that you can call &#8220;usual&#8221; (nonetheless glorious) for a Scottish breakfast.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">Square sausage, black pudding, bacon, eggs, potato scone, mushrooms and tomatoes, toasts, jam and marmelade.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Il y a un mois, nous avons vu sur ce blog à quel point il était normal de manger du saumon ou de la truite fumée au petit déjeuner en Islande.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">En Écosse, autre (bien que pas autant au Nord) pays d&#8217;Europe du Nord, manger du hareng fumé au petit déjeuner est également assez commun.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Nous avons passé quelques jours dans la région de St Andrews. Fière d&#8217;être la ville où Kate et William se sont rencontrés, St Andrews est aussi l&#8217;un des berceaux du golf.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Nous sommes restés à Crail, l&#8217;un des villages de pêcheurs de la région de St Andrews.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Le premier jour, à l&#8217;hôtel, nous avons mangé un petit-déjeuner que l&#8217;on peut qualifier d&#8217;&#8221;usuel&#8221; (néanmoins riche et délicieux) pour un petit déjeuner écossais.</span></p>

<p style="text-align:left;"><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Le jour suivant nous avons eu la chance de goûter le kippers, c&#8217;est-à-dire du hareng fumé. </span></p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Le serveur propose de le servir avec des œufs, et comme à ce moment là vous n&#8217;avez pas idée de la taille de la portion de ce qui va vous être servi, vous dites naïvement &#8220;oui&#8221;, puis seulement réalisez&#8230;!</span></p>

<p>Cet été en Islande, au lac <em>Mývatn </em>(littérallement, &#8220;le lac des mouches&#8221; à cause du nombre d&#8217;insectes) nous sommes passés par une jolie pension à la ferme, la <em>Dimmuborgir Guesthouse</em>, bien accrochée à son champ de lave tout autour.</p>
<p>Au petit déj, en plus des classiques jambon-fromage-confiture, une belle assiette de truites saumonées fumées estampillée &#8220;maison&#8221;. Tentant&#8230; Cela se mange sur une tranche de pain noir (mmm&#8230; maison aussi) avec un peu de beurre. Et c&#8217;est un régal. Un peu fort pour les estomacs sensibles peut-être, surtout le matin, mais qu&#8217;importe ! Le mien est à toute épreuve.</p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">This summer in Iceland, at <em>Mývatn </em>lake (littérally, &#8220;the flyes lake&#8221; because of the amount of insects) we stopped by a lovely pension in a farm, the <em>Dimmuborgir Guesthouse</em>, attached to a field of lava which is all around.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">For breakfast, on top of the usual ham-cheese-jam, a nice plate of smoked trouts with a &#8220;homemade&#8221; label. Tempting&#8230; You eat it on a slice of black bread (yummy&#8230; homemade as well) with some butter. And it is delicious. A bit strong maybe for sensitive stomacks, especially in the morning, but whatever ! Mine resists to everything.</span></p>

<p>C&#8217;est tellement bon que je ne peux m&#8217;empêcher de demander à visiter le fumoir&#8230; Nous suivons un jeune homme tout au fond de la ferme, on enjambe un tas de matériel de pêche, et là, une petite porte, qu&#8217;il ouvre. A l&#8217;intérieur des dizaines de filets de truites et de maquereaux sont suspendus. Les truites, ils les vendent aux restaurants islandais, jusqu&#8217;à Reykjavik ! Une fois même, quelqu&#8217;un est venu du Vatican pour en prendre 10kg ! Les maquereaux, non ça, ils les gardent pour eux.</p>
<p>Faire du poisson fumé demande beaucoup d&#8217;expérience car chaque étape doit être surveillée de près, et beaucoup d&#8217;éléments sont à prendre en compte, notamment la météo. Il y a d&#8217;abord 1 jour de salage (il y a une grosse caisse de gros sel sur le côté), puis 1 à 2 jours de séchage (accéléré par un ventilateur), enfin deux jours de fumage dans la toute petite pièce d&#8217;à côté, qui est le fumoir à proprement parler. Il y a là un épais tapis de cendres. Il appelle cela un &#8220;feu froid&#8221;, et c&#8217;est à base de tourbe et de cendres volcaniques. Ils parviennent ainsi à maintenir un feu étouffé et constant.</p>
<p>Lui, il n&#8217;est là que pour l&#8217;été, mais il raconte que son père et son frère sont (je cite) &#8220;comme fous avec ces histoires de poissons !&#8221;.<br />
Peut-être ! Mais c&#8217;est pour notre plus grand plaisir ! <em>Takk !</em> A bientôt !</p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">It is so good that I cannot retain myself from asking to visit the smokehouse&#8230; We follow a young man at the back of the farm, we pass a bunch of fishing equipment, and there, a small door, which he opens. Inside, dozens of trouts and mackerel filets are hung up.The trouts are sold in Islandish restaurant, even in Reykjavik ! Once, someone came from the Vatican to order 10kg ! Mackerels, no, they keep it for themselves.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">Making smoked fish requires a lot of skills because each step is determinant and among the element to take into account, the weather forecast influences the smoking.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">There is first one day of salting (we can see a big box filled with salt on the side), then 1-2 day of drying (accelerated by a fan), and finally 2 days of smoking in the tiny room on the side, the smokehouse. There, there is a thick carpet of asches. He calls it a &#8220;cold fire&#8221;, it is made of peat and volcanic asches. The manage to maintain a constant and smothered fire.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#888888;">The young man is only here for the summer, but he tells us that his father and his brother are (I quote) &#8220;like crazy with this fish!&#8221;.</span></p>

Ce, tout en m&#8217;occupant des fleurs et en allumant l&#8217;ordinateur, pour lire mes emails et les titres de trois journaux en ligne. Ces 45 minutes sont mon luxe de travailleuse free-lance.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">My very first breakfast in the morning is just a coffee with milk and sugar. The idea of soon getting a hot coffee in a big cup helps me to go out of bed in the morning… It’s my daily morning routine to wander around in my home with the cup in my hand, caring for the flowers, to boot up my computer, to check the mails and to read the headlines of three newspapers online. Theses 45 minutes are my luxury of being a freelancer.</span></p>

<p><span style="color:#ffffff;">Le petit-déjeuner suivant est ce que les Allemands appellent très souvent &#8220;muesli&#8221; (&#8220;céréales&#8221;) accompagné de yaourt et de fruits. J&#8217;ai même une cuiller spéciale pour le muesli : plus grosse qu&#8217;une cuiller à café et plus petite qu&#8217;une cuiller à soupe. Je suis donc une victime d&#8217;un bon marketing. Je ne prépare pas le muesli moi-même mais j&#8217;achète un mélange qui contient moins de sucre, auqeul j&#8217;ajoute des noix, des cornflakes et du son de blé. J&#8217;y ajoute parfois du lait et toujours du yaourt nature. Le goût sucré vient des fruits que j&#8217;ajoute : bananes, pêches &#8211; ce qui est disponible. J&#8217;ai commencé à manger des fruits le matin il y a quelques années à Bali, où ils étaient servi avec du pain. c&#8217;était véritablement une nouvelle expérience pour moi. Et normalement, je ne fait pas un dessin avec les raisins secs. Le grand sourire en raisin avec les pêche est seulement pour toi J qui part à l&#8217;aventure.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">My next breakfast is very often what Germans call „Müsli“ (cereals) with yoghurt and fruits. I even have a special „Müsli“ spoon: bigger than a tea spoon and smaller than a table spoon. So I am a victim of good marketing. I don’t prepare the cereals myself but buy a certain mix with less sugar and than I add nuts, cornflakes and wheat bran. Sometimes I add a small cup of milk and always some plain yoghurt. The sugar comes from various fruits: bananas, peaches – whatever is available. I learned in Bali to eat fruits in the morning some years ago where they served it with toast. It was a real new experience for me. Normally I don’t draw with raisins on a plate. The big raisin-smile with the peaches is just for you J out in the world.</span><em></em> <em></em></p>

<p><span style="color:#ffffff;">Traditionnellement, le petit-déjeuner joue un rôle important dans les habitudes alimentaires allemandes et normalement, un eprofusion d&#8217;aliments est disponible dans les familles. Les boulangeries vendent plus de 300 recettes de pain (pas dans un seul magasin bien sûr&#8230;). On trouve au petit déjeuner des oeufs, du fromage, des saucisses, de la confiture, parfois des gâteaux, du jus d&#8217;orange&#8230; Mais la vie moderne créé un mode de vie plus pratique et plus sain. Alors beaucoup d&#8217;Allemands sont habitués à manger du muesli le matin, des préparations achetées au supermarché ou bien réalisées soi-même.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#ffffff;">Au départ, je pensais présenter un &#8220;Weißwurstfrühstück&#8221;. C&#8217;est un petit-déjeuner bavarois, mais je n&#8217;ai pas trouvé quelqu&#8217;un à Hamburg avec le typique verre de bière. La tradition dit qu&#8217;il faut le manger avant midi. Avec de la bière. Ne pas conduire après. Des restaurants traditionnels le servent effectivement uniquement avant midi.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Traditionally, breakfast plays an important role in German food habits and normally you get a lot to eat in the families. Bakeries sell bread, from more than 300 recipes (not in one shop, of course…) You get as well eggs, cheese, sausages, jam, sometimes cakes, orange juice. But modern life creates a quicker and healthier lifestyle. So many Germans are used to eat Müsli in the morning – in mixtures from the supermarkets or prepared with own receipes.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#c0c0c0;">Originally I thought to introduce a „Weißwurstfrühstück“. It’s a bavarian habit, but I didn’t find a person in Hamburg with the typical beer glass. Tradition says you have to eat it before 12 o’clock – with beer. Don’t drive afterwards. Some traditional restaurants don’t serve it after 12 o’clock.</span></p>
